Werder Bremen set to appoint Daniel Thioune as their new head coach

Bild reports that Werder Bremen have found their replacement for Horst Steffen following his dismissal at the weekend.

Steffen was fired with the club sitting just above the relegation zone in 15th, but with only a one-point gap to the relegation places, while they have also failed to win a game since early November.

Former Hamburg and, most recently, Fortuna Düsseldorf head coach Daniel Thioune is expected to become the club’s new head coach.

Thioune has been without a job since being dismissed as Fortuna’s head coach back in October; because of this, Bremen will likely have to pay the 2.Bundesliga side a small transfer fee to break his contract, which is valid until 2028.

Bremen’s frustrating head coach search:

Since firing Steffen at the weekend, Bremen have been linked with several different head coaches. Both Bo Henriksen and Bo Svensson declined the chance to sit in the dugout at the Weserstadion.

While Martin Demichelis and Dieter Hecking were also under consideration.
