Chelsea line up €75 million move for Jeremy Jacquet
Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old French defensive sensation Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais in a deal worth €75 million in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jeremy Jacquet is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are eager to bolster their defensive units by signing a versatile centre-back this year. So, the 20-year-old Stade Rennais prospect has emerged as a target. However, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich also keen on securing his services, the West London club will hope to seal the deal with an upcoming bid worth €75 million.
Who is Jeremy Jacquet?
Jeremy Jacquet has established himself as one of the most promising young prospects in Ligue 1 since breaking into the first-team squad at Stade Rennais. Born in Bondy, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at AS Outre Mer du Bois l’Abbe and Joinville RC before graduating from the youth division at Stade Rennais. The 20-year-old has enjoyed his breakthrough at the Ligue 1 club this term.
Jacquet has made 17 Ligue 1 appearances thus far in the 2025/26 season, becoming a regular for Stade Rennais. Meanwhile, the French defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Liverpool are among the prospective suitors vying for the youngster’s signature.
A man in demand
Bayern Munich will dip into the market for a centre-back in the final week of the winter transfer window, as they are concerned about Dayot Upamecano’s long-term future. Talks with the former RB Leipzig defender over a new contract have not progressed, and Bayern Munich may pursue a replacement. So, Jacquet has emerged as a viable target for the Bundesliga champions.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Jeremy Jacquet makes sense. Even though they also have several centre-backs in the senior squad, they want another centre-back, as Axel Disasi will leave this year. Additionally, Benoit Badiashile’s long-term future remains uncertain. So, the Blues can do with at least one new centre-back, with Jacquet an option worth considering. The latest update has suggested that they have prepared a bid worth €75 million to secure his services.
As for Liverpool, Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future is uncertain, as he has entered the final six months of his contract. Talks over a new deal have not progressed as well as the Reds would have liked, forcing the Merseyside outfit to scour the market for a replacement. Jacquet has thus emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.
However, with Chelsea preparing a bid worth €75 million to sign the 20-year-old Frenchman, Liverpool and Bayern Munich risk falling behind the Blues in the battle for his signature. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the promising Stade Rennais defender.
