Crystal Palace could sack Oliver Glasner imminently

Crystal Palace could call time on Oliver Glasner’s stay following some of his comments in the media ahead of the weekend’s game.

According to Team Talk, Oliver Glasner could face the sack imminently following his comments in the media regarding the club. The Austrian was unhappy following the sale of skipper Marc Guehi as he insisted he felt no support for him or the players, with the club now reportedly open to taking swift action.

Oliver Glasner put himself in the spotlight ahead of the weekend’s game against Sunderland, following some fiery comments in the aftermath of the Marc Guehi sale. The Crystal Palace boss was unhappy with the decision to sell the club captain and insisted he does not feel supported.

When asked whether he will see out the remainder of the campaign, Glasner said, “I don’t know… I feel we are being abandoned completely. The worst thing is selling our captain one day before playing a Premier League game.”

“We have 12, 13 players from the squad available, and we feel no support.”

This also comes after Glasner confirmed his desire to leave the club following the end of his contract in the summer. There are quite a lot of suitors for the 51-year-old Premier League manager, with Manchester United one of those chasing.

Tottenham are also thinking about the Austrian as they themselves are set to hold internal talks to discuss Thomas Frank’s future at the club. With Glasner now confirming his desire to leave Palace, the likes of Spurs and Manchester United will see this news as a boost to land the 51-year-old Premier League manager.

On the other hand, in the aftermath of Glasner’s comments, Crystal Palace could lean towards sacking the Austrian immediately. They have already earmarked  Getafe boss Jose Bordalas as a big option to replace the Austrian, while Rayo Vallecano’s Inigo Perez is also under consideration for the role at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace to sack Oliver Glasner?

Given the veracity of the comments and the perception it creates about a dysfunctional relationship between the club’s board and the first team manager, it usually ends in a high-profile sacking of the head coach. However, in Palace’s case, they are not planning on doing so.

As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, Glasner held positive talks with the club, and they are planning to continue until the end of the season. Palace also assured the Austrian of their plans to strengthen the squad in anticipation of winning the Conference League this season, which has firmly pointed to the 51-year-old Premier League manager staying put at Selhurst Park at least until the summer.
