Manchester United view Thomas Tuchel as top managerial target
Manchester United will aim to appoint 52-year-old German tactician Thomas Tuchel as Ruben Amorim’s successor later this year.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Thomas Tuchel is the subject of interest of Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the managerial market for a new head coach after sacking Ruben Amorim earlier this week. So, the 52-year-old German tactician has emerged as a top target for the Premier League club. However, a deal may not be straightforward due to the former Chelsea boss’s involvement with the English national squad.
Thomas Tuchel and his career so far
Thomas Tuchel has established himself as one of the world’s best managers in the past decade. Born in Krumbach, he did not enjoy a long professional career and entered the managerial sphere in 2007 by taking charge of FC Augsburg’s reserve team. His next assignment was with FSV Mainz 05, a job that put him on the map.
However, Tuchel rose in prominence during his spell with Borussia Dortmund before enjoying trophy-laden success with Paris Saint-Germain. The 52-year-old then joined Chelsea, and he guided the West London club to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, his time with Chelsea ended after run-ins with the owners.
Tuchel’s next assignment came with Bayern Munich, and he guided the Bavarian club to the 2022/23 Bundesliga title. However, the German tactician left another club in egregious circumstances. But the former Chelsea manager’s latest stint has brought optimism, with England hot off the blocks under his tutelage, having yet to lose a game in ten outings.
What next?
Recent reports have suggested that Thomas Tuchel’s exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, and he may be an option for Manchester United. The Red Devils have sacked Ruben Amorim this week, and they are combing the market for a long-term replacement for the Portuguese tactician.
While Manchester United’s search for the next head coach has led them to several names, Tuchel has emerged as the Premier League club’s top candidate. However, a deal will not be straightforward, as Tuchel is focusing on guiding England to a successful campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
That means the 52-year-old former Chelsea manager will not be available until after England’s World Cup campaign ends, thus delaying the start of his Manchester United stint. Additionally, the German tactician “won’t necessarily be available after the tournament” amid uncertainties about his long-term future with the Three Lions. So, the Red Devils must keep their options open during their managerial search.
