Everton stalling on move for Juanlu Sanchez
Everton may not launch a bid to sign 22-year-old Spanish wide player Juanlu Sanchez from La Liga club Sevilla in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by ABC Sevilla, as relayed by Sport Witness, Juanlu Sanchez is the subject of interest of Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the winter transfer window after failing to land one this past summer. So, the 22-year-old Sevilla wide player remains a target for the Merseyside outfit.
Everton wanted to sign the Spaniard in the summer transfer window before abandoning a move, as he was eager to join Napoli. However, after failing to sign a right-back this past summer, the Toffees are keen on rectifying their mistake by securing Juanlu’s services in the winter transfer window, although they are hesitating on a January deal.
How has Juanlu Sanchez fared in his career so far?
Juanlu Sanchez has established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Sevilla FC. Born in Montequinto, the youngster spent his formative years in Spain and graduated from the youth division at the Andalusian club. The 22-year-old made his senior bow for Los Nervionenses midway through the 2021/22 season, and he has not looked back since then.
The Spanish wide player has been a regular for Sevilla in the last two seasons, and he won the gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The player has made nearly 100 appearances for Sevilla thus far while chipping in with six goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the past year.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton wanted to sign Juanlu Sanchez in the summer transfer window, but the deal failed to materialise. The continued interest makes sense, as the Toffees are still scouring the market for a right-back. Seamus Coleman is in the twilight of his career, and Nathan Patterson has struggled with fitness issues at Everton.
While Jake O’Brien has been solid as a right-back for Everton, he is not a natural fit in the position, and David Moyes can do with an alternative. Several candidates, including Zakaria El Ouahdi, have thus emerged on Everton’s wishlist, with Juanlu also a viable target.
However, while the 22-year-old Spaniard has been a target for Everton, they may not pursue his signature in the winter transfer window. The Toffees are hesitating on a deal, and they have yet to launch a bid to secure his services. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Olympic gold medalist.
