Besiktas make move to sign Kobbie Mainoo

Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old English international Kobbie Mainoo on loan from Manchester United in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Sabah, as relayed by Sport Witness, Kobbie Mainoo is the subject of interest from Besiktas. The Black Eagles are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 20-year-old Manchester United whizkid has emerged as a target for the Turkish club.

The Black Eagles have established contact over a possible move for the Englishman in the winter transfer window. Besiktas will attempt to secure Mainoo’s services on an 18-month deal, and they will aim to convince the youngster if they receive approval from Manchester United.

What is Kobbie Mainoo’s situation?

Kobbie Mainoo may have already reached a crossroads in his career despite being only 20 years old. The Stockport native rose in prominence under Erik ten Hag, who handed him regular game time. However, the academy graduate has been a backup player since Ruben Amorim took over at Manchester United, as he occupies the same position as captain Bruno Fernandes, as per the Portuguese tactician.

The English international has managed only 302 minutes of game time in 12 appearances thus far in the 2025/26 season. So, it is hardly surprising that Mainoo has been mulling over leaving Manchester United in the winter transfer window. The youngster’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Besiktas.

Turkish adventure awaits?

Besiktas’s interest in Kobbie Mainoo is understandable. The Black Eagles are in a spot of bother heading into the second half of the 2025/26 season, as they are fifth in the Turkish Super Lig standings. With the club’s board demanding European qualification, they will focus on January signings to push for their objective in the coming months.

Several candidates, including Filip Jorgensen, have thus emerged on Besiktas’s radar, with Mainoo also a viable target as they look to reinforce their midfield unit. The Black Eagles have contacted Manchester United to discuss an 18-month loan deal for the 20-year-old Englishman.

Besiktas will attempt to convince Mainoo once they receive approval from Manchester United. However, the Red Devils are hesitant to part ways with the English international in the winter transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the disgruntled midfielder.
