Newcastle United poised to make approach for Dayann Methalie

Newcastle United will soon submit an enquiry to sign 19-year-old French full-back prodigy Dayann Methalie from Ligue 1 club Toulouse FC.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Dayann Methalie is the subject of interest of Newcastle United. The Magpies are eager to reinforce their defensive unit by signing a left-back in one of the next two transfer windows. So, the 19-year-old Toulouse FC full-back prodigy has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.

However, a winter move will unlikely materialise, as the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners “see his addition as accelerating plans” for the summer transfer window. Nevertheless, Newcastle United will soon submit an enquiry to discuss a possible move for the Frenchman.

Who is Dayann Methalie?

Dayann Methalie is the latest promising prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland as young prodigies continue to emerge from the conveyor belt of talent in France. Born in Toulouse, the 19-year-old left-back has spent his formative years thus far in France, starting his youth career at US Colomiers before rising through the ranks at Toulouse FC in the past decade.

The French full-back prodigy made his senior bow for Toulouse FC at the onset of the 2025/26 season, and he has made 17 appearances thus far while chipping in with one assist. Meanwhile, Methalie’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Newcastle United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature this year.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Dayann Methalie is understandable. While Lewis Hall has been exceptional for the Tyneside outfit, Eddie Howe needs two top-notch options for each position to compete on four fronts. With Newcastle United having lofty aspirations for their long-term future, they must sign a new left-back.

Matt Targett has no future at St. James’ Park, while Dan Burn is primarily a centre-back. So, Methalie has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United, with the Tyneside outfit ready to submit an enquiry to discuss a possible move for the 19-year-old Frenchman.

However, a January move will unlikely materialise, as the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners “see his addition as accelerating plans” for the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the French full-back prodigy.
