Leeds United join Manchester United, Newcastle United in Ruben Neves race, make approach
Leeds United have entered the race for the signature of Manchester United and Newcastle United midfield target Ruben Neves.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Ruben Neves could make a return to the Premier League in the near future, as Leeds United, Manchester United and Newcastle United are all keen on his signature. Since he has turned down multiple renewal offers from Al-Hilal, all three clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation.
Neves made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances for Wolves. He was on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in Europe during the summer of 2023, but in a surprising turn of events, he ended up joining Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.
The Middle East club forked out £47 million to add him to their ranks. The 28-year-old has been one of their standout performers over the years. But his future has now become a big talking point as his contract runs out at the end of the season.
The Portuguese international has already turned down multiple renewal offers from Al-Hilal, who have reportedly put forward another fresh and improved two-year contract to Neves. While he is considering the latest offer, Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on him. They see it as a great opportunity to sign a world-class midfielder for a bargain fee.
Al-Hilal would love to see him extend, but if things don’t go according to plan, they are willing to listen to offers of £15 million or more in the upcoming transfer window, as they do not intend to lose him for free.
Premier League trio to battle for Neves
Newcastle, Manchester United and Leeds United are the three biggest contenders for his signature. The Yorkshire-based club see him as a marquee signing who can help them survive the drop. Leeds have already made an enquiry about the Portuguese midfielder.
With Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte’s future uncertain, the 28-year-old became one of the cornerstones of United’s project. Ruben Amorim seeks more quality in midfield, and Neves is just the perfect fit for his system. But they are yet to make a formal approach to the player or the club.
Meanwhile, Newcastle hold a long-term interest in Neves, and he will certainly give Eddie Howe a lot more flexibility in the centre of the park. With all three clubs keen on his signature, it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the winter window.
