Tottenham face frustration in pursuit of Yan Diomande

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham have suffered a blow in their pursuit of RB Leipzig attacking sensation Yan Diomande.

After a disappointing start to life at Tottenham, Thomas Frank is looking at the winter transfer window as an opportunity to reinforce his squad. The former Brentford boss seeks more quality out wide. While they have a list of high-profile targets, things don’t seem to be going their way.

With a deal for Antonie Semenyo very unlikely, Spurs are now looking at Yan Diomande as an ideal alternative. But, according to Dean Jones via TEAMtalk, the North London club are set to face frustration in their pursuit of the RB Leipzig winger, as he is unlikely to choose them over other top clubs.

While speaking about Spurs’ winter plans, Jones said,“Tottenham’s plans for 2026 are already beginning to look too ambitious,” began Jones.

“They have had a couple of tough moments this year, first with Eberechi Eze going to Arsenal, Morgan Gibbs-White staying at Nottingham Forest, and now they’ve been given the cold shoulder by Antoine Semenyo.

“I don’t think he will be the last. They are scouting players like Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco) and Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) but those players have top, top teams looking to sign them.

“The likes of PSG, Bayern Munich… and no one is likely to choose Spurs over those clubs, are they?”

Since joining the German club from CD Leganes last summer, Diomande has been involved in a total of 16 matches. He has racked up over 1,000 minutes and has contributed towards 11 goals.

While he prefers playing out wide on the left flank, he has been equally effective on both flanks, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. His contract at Leipzig runs until the summer of 2030, but he could be on the move in the near future as some of the biggest clubs in Europe are after his signature.

Diomande unlikely to join Spurs

Tottenham are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature. The North London club lacks firepower in the final third, and they consider Diomande an ideal fit for Thomas Frank’s team and their project. He has all the qualities needed to succeed in the Premier League, and with a deal for Semenyo unlikely, Spurs are ready to go all out for the 19-year-old.

However, they might struggle to land him, as he is on the wishlist of bigger clubs. The teenager might prefer joining a club like PSG or Bayern Munich, who have a much better project to offer. Their poor start to the season certainly doesn’t help their chances of convincing Diomande, who will have better offers to choose from.
