Pep Guardiola pushing Manchester City to sign Berke Ozer

Pep Guardiola has reportedly asked Manchester City to sign 25-year-old LOSC Lille goalkeeping sensation Berke Ozer.

Pep Guardiola wants to further bolster the goalkeeping position by signing another young shot-stopper. According to a report from Fichajes, the Spanish manager has requested the signing of Berke Ozer, who has been doing wonders at LOSC Lille.

With Lucas Chevalier joining Manchester City last summer, Lille brought in Ozer from Eyupspor to take his place as their new number one. The 25-year-old has had a sensational start to life at the French club. The Turk has only conceded 21 goals in his 19 outings, and he has kept seven clean sheets.

He has established himself as a top goalkeeper in no time and could end up leaving the Ligue 1 outfit for a bigger club sooner than expected. While his contract at Lille runs until the summer of 2029, Manchester City could try to prise him away in the near future.

While Lille would be reluctant to lose him, they signed him for just over €4 million, and given his sensational rise, they could now be set to make a huge profit from his sale. Pep Guardiola is believed to be a massive admirer of the youngster.

Manchester City brought in James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma to reinforce the goalkeeping position. While they already have enough quality in goal, Guardiola is still keen on having Ozer in his squad because of one specific quality of his.

Why Pep Guardiola wants Ozer?

The Catalan manager has been closely monitoring Berke Ozer, and he wants the player at the Manchester-based club because of his penalty-saving ability. He is renowned for his ability to stop spot-kicks, and it could make a massive difference in European knockout games.

The Lille goalkeeper saved three penalties in a single game against Roma in Europe, and he backed it up with another penalty save against Young Boys. Guardiola sees it as a strategic move to improve their chances of winning major silverware.

Since the Spanish manager has demanded his signing, Manchester City are likely to make a move for him. However, it will be interesting to see if it has an impact on Trafford’s future at the Premier League club.
