Predicted Liverpool lineup against Inter Milan: Isak in for Gakpo; Salah misses out
Alexander Isak will replace Cody Gakpo in the Liverpool starting lineup when they take on Inter Milan in a UEFA Champions League clash at San Siro on Tuesday.
Liverpool will be desperate to return to winning ways in the UEFA Champions League when they lock horns with Inter Milan at San Siro on Tuesday night. Arne Slot has a new roster issue to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Mohamed Salah is not in the travelling squad after his bombshell interview this past weekend. Additionally, Giovanni Leoni (knee) and Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring) remain in the treatment room.
Interestingly, Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo are not in the travelling squad, with the latter recovering from a minor issue and the former dealing with illness. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot provided fitness updates on Chiesa and Gakpo.
The Liverpool manager said, “Federico is ill, so that is poor timing you could say. But it’s not something you can do anything about. So, we are monitoring his situation. If he has an amazing recovery – which I, we, doctors don’t expect – he might travel tomorrow.”
“But let’s have a fair expectation, that’s not what I expect. And Cody Gakpo unfortunately picked up an injury in the last game we played against Leeds and he will be out for a few weeks.”
The most highly-anticipated talking point during Slot’s presser was the Salah topic. The Liverpool boss said, “We’ve let him know that he’s not travelling with us [to Milan], so that was the only communication there has been there from us to him. Of course, before Saturday the two of us have spoken a lot. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.”
Alisson Becker is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Inter Milan on Tuesday. The backline will feature Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Andrew Robertson.
As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister in the double pivot. Florian Wirtz will reprise the no. 10 role, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak completing a makeshift offensive unit.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Gomez, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Ekitike; Isak
