Igor Thiago increasingly likely to leave Brentford in January

Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Brazilian striker Igor Thiago from Brentford.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are keen on Igor Thiago. The Brentford striker is “highly likely” to leave the West London club in the winter transfer window, with the Bees losing hope of keeping the 24-year-old for the second half of the 2025/26 season. So, a deal worth €35-40 million may be on the cards.

How has Igor Thiago fared at Brentford so far?

Igor Thiago has enjoyed a meteoric rise in prominence at Brentford this season after struggling with fitness issues in his debut season. However, the departures of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have also helped the South American attacker’s cause, as he has become a mainstay in the final third for the West London club.

The Brazilian has scored 12 goals in 14 appearances thus far in the 2025/26 season, and only Erling Haaland has scored more than him in the Premier League. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League bigwigs, including Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

A man in demand

Aston Villa will likely dip into the market for a striker next year, as Ollie Watkins will be 30 in December. Additionally, the English international has not been at his best this season. So, the West Midlands outfit must not only start planning for life after the English international but also look for an alternative. Thiago has thus emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s interest in Igor Thiago is perplexing. While William Osula faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park, Eddie Howe already has two strikers in his squad. So, it is unclear how Thiago fits into the scheme of things at Newcastle United. Nevertheless, the Magpies have their sights set on the Brentford attacker.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Dominic Solanke has struggled to make his mark since completing a big-money move from Brentford last year. Meanwhile, Richarlison faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while it is unclear if Randal Kolo Muani will complete a permanent move next summer. So, the North London club must sign a striker next year.

The latest report has revealed that Thiago is “highly likely” to leave Brentford in the winter transfer window, with the West London club losing hope of keeping the 24-year-old for the second half of the 2025/26 season. So, a deal worth €35-40 million may be on the cards, with Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur vying for the Brazilian striker’s signature.
