Newcastle United ready to sell Joe Willock in January

Newcastle United will happily entertain bids to part ways with 26-year-old English midfielder Joe Willock in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Joe Willock faces an uncertain future at Newcastle United heading into the winter transfer window. Recent reports have suggested that the former Arsenal prospect is a target for several Premier League clubs. Meanwhile, the Magpies are ready to cash in on the 26-year-old midfielder in January.

How has Joe Willock fared at Newcastle United?

Joe Willock has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Newcastle United from Arsenal. The Tyneside outfit initially signed the Englishman on loan in February 2021 before completing a permanent move in a deal worth £20 million in the subsequent summer transfer window.

However, while the 26-year-old was exceptional during his loan spell with Newcastle United in the second half of the 2020/21 season, he has struggled to make his mark since completing his permanent move to St. James’ Park. Willock’s game time has dwindled with every passing season, and he has managed only 277 minutes across eight appearances in all competitions this term.

However, the English midfielder’s stock in the market has not fallen much, as several Premier League clubs have shown interest in him in the last two transfer windows. That will continue next year, as recent reports have linked Willock with many stable top-flight outfits.

Will Willock leave Newcastle United in January?

As iterated earlier, recent reports have linked Joe Willock with several Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham United. Joining these London outfits will enable the former Arsenal prospect to return to familiar surroundings, which may bring the best out of him after his struggles at Newcastle United.

Among the prospective suitors, Crystal Palace wanted to sign Joe Willock in the summer transfer window. The continued interest is understandable, as the Eagles are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the winter transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Will Hughes and Adam Wharton.

However, while Willock is no longer in Newcastle United’s long-term plans, the Tyneside outfit will only sanction his departure if they sign a replacement. Several candidates, including Manu Kone, are on Newcastle United’s radar, and a winter move for a midfielder may be on the cards to facilitate the 26-year-old Englishman’s exit.
