Estevao Willian’s agent has admitted that the Chelsea starlet harbours a strong admiration for Barcelona.

Chelsea recently hosted Barcelona in the Champions League. While it was expected to be a tough day at the office for the Blues, they ended up dominating the proceedings and smashed the Spanish giants 3-0.

Estevao Willian was one of the stars of the night as the London club took apart a Barcelona team that was reduced to 10 men. It has put the 18-year-old Brazilian attacker in the limelight, and following his stellar performance, his agent Andre Cury gave an interview to Cadena Ser.

During the interview, Estevao’s agent talked about his links with Barcelona and the fact that he fancies the Spanish club. The teenager could end up joining them somewhere down the line.

Estevao’s failed Barcelona move

Cury said: “After my departure we talked about Estêvão in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. We went to the offices to offer the player because we believed he would have a great future in world football. Barcelona are not well economically, and sometimes you cannot complete a deal. It is sad, but it is sad.”

“The technical staff always approved Estêvão’s signing, and we met Deco more than once. But Deco is tied because the club’s economy does not allow a future operation. With Vitor Roque, the club rushed into a mistake. A player cannot be signed and then, after four months, not be useful. With Vitor there was no atmosphere to sign Estêvão,”

The teenager who came up the ranks at Palmeiras before joining Chelsea was offered to Barcelona on multiple occasions over the years. While the Catalan giants were keen on his signature and the technical department even gave the green light to the move, Deco couldn’t get it over the line.

Since Barcelona have been going through a very difficult financial phase, the Sporting Director didn’t have the funds needed to sign the Brazilian international, who seems to be a generational talent.

Estevao could join Barcelona in future?

While Estevao also prefers playing on the right flank, Cury feels the duo could have existed together as the teenager is capable enough to feature out wide as well as in a more central role.

While speaking about his connection with the Spanish club, the agent said: “Estêvão has five years of contract and is enjoying his time at Chelsea. But he has a special affection for Barcelona,”

The teenager is loving life at the London club, and his contract at Stamford Bridge runs until the summer of 2033. As a result, Chelsea are in complete control of his future. However, things could change down the line, as Cury admitted that Estevao has a special affection for Barcelona, despite the failed moves back in the day.
