Chelsea, Manchester United unlikely to land Assan Ouedraogo in January

Chelsea and Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Assan Ouedraogo, as a January deal is unlikely.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of RB Leipzig midfield sensation Assan Ouedraogo. Both Premier League giants have been closely monitoring him ahead of a potential move.

While they would love to secure his services in the upcoming winter transfer window, that seems unlikely. The Red Devils and the Blues will have to wait until next summer to try to sign the 19-year-old.

The teenager came up the ranks at FC Schalke 04. He got promoted to the first team in the summer of 2023, and on the back of an impressive debut campaign, Leipzig secured his services the following summer.

Ouedraogo had a very disappointing debut campaign as injuries kept him on the sidelines for the majority of the season. However, he has got his career back on track with an impressive start to the new season. The 19-year-old has bagged three goals and three assists in his 11 league outings.

Premier League giants keen on Ouedraogo

Assan Ouedraogo’s performances have caught the attention of the Premier League giants, Chelsea and United. Both clubs consider him a special talent, and their scouts have been keeping tabs on him since the start of the season.

They have received glowing reports and are ready to prise him away from Leipzig. However, a winter move is not on the agenda. The Bundesliga club are reluctant to lose him, and the player is focused on doing his best for Leipzig to strengthen his case for a place in Germany’s World Cup squad, having recently made his senior debut.

His contract at Leipzig runs until the summer of 2029, and there is no release clause in his deal, which means the German outfit are in complete control of his future and won’t let him leave unless their demands are met.

Chelsea are always on the lookout for young stars with massive potential, and the 19-year-old is considered an ideal fit for their project. Meanwhile, Manchester United are looking to build a team for the long run, and they seem willing to invest in him.

A winter move might be off the cards, but the Premier League giants are unlikely to give up. If Ouedraogo continues to perform in similar fashion, they will return for his signature next summer.
