FFF president reveals that Didier Deschamps’ successor could be named before World Cup

It is no secret that Didier Deschamps will leave his role as France manager. He confirmed his decision to step back after next summer’s FIFA World Cup back in January.

The Frenchman led his country to become world champions back in 2018, and France also reached the World Cup final in 2022. But his time at the head of Les Bleus is coming to an end. It had been assumed that his successor would be named after the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

And whilst this may still happen as FFF president Philippe Diallo told L’Équipe, there is also the possibility that Deschamps’ successor is nominated sooner. Diallo said that the succession announcement could come in “a window far enough away from the World Cup finals”.

He then specified that this may come in the first trimester of 2026, around March or April. He added that Deschamps could be present at the announcement of his successor.
