Antwerp and Anderlecht fans to boycott away trips this weekend over ticket limitations
As reported by HLN, two sets of fans will be boycotting their sides away trips in the Belgian Pro League this weekend. Anderlecht fans are not going to turn up at the new La Louviere stadium in protest at the umber of tickets available to the side. Anderlecht can only take a miniscule 400 fans to the new Easi Area. The Mauves fans also look set to boycott the next away game, in Westerlo, for the same reasons. Clearly there has to be some form of compromise in terms of tickets made available to away teams. As a club, Anderlecht have said they will raise the issue with the Pro League on behalf of their fans.
Antwerp fans are set to do the same with their trip to Club Brugge this weekend. The fans state that the local police have decided that their allocation should be halved for the game, something that the Antwerp supporters cannot accept. It is a shame that such boycotts will be taking place, given that away fans in Belgium add greatly to the atmosphere at games.
The Pro League will be keen to ensure this is not a regular occurrence, as it harms their product at a time where there is tension with the broadcast rights holder DAZN.
