Tottenham could miss out on Ademola Lookman
Atalanta could push to keep Ademola Lookman beyond the January window, which could come as a big blow to Tottenham’s hopes.
According to Team Talk, Tottenham are facing a complex situation ahead in their pursuit of Ademola Lookman. His current club, Atalanta, are now pushing to keep him after making a managerial change, thus leaving the 28-year-old Serie A attacker in making a meky decision on his future.
Ademola Lookman was close to leaving Atalanta in the summer, when the attacker was also pushing to join Inter Milan. The two clubs were only marginally short on the valuation of the winger, which then saw the San Siro outfit back out and move on to other targets.
Lookman has come into a position of power with regard to his future, as the 28-year-old Serie A attacker’s current deal with Atalanta expires in 2027. Hence, it’s a decision for the Bergamo outfit on the player’s immediate future, as they may end up losing value on him if at all they force a stay in January.
The winger was expected to accelerate a departure after a recent spat with manager Ivan Juric, which had alerted a host of top clubs around England and Spain. Atletico Madrid are one of the admirers, while over in England, a host of other teams, including Tottenham, have shown an interest.
Atalanta have since sacked Juric and replaced him with Raffaele Palladino, as they are now hoping to keep hold of the 28-year-old Serie A attacker for longer. It’s a tough decision for Lookman to make, given that the club are ready to make him their most important player, which could even bring along a new deal on the table.
Tottenham dealt a blow in the Lookman chase
With Atalanta making efforts to keep hold of Lookman, the 28-year-old Serie A attacker might have a tricky decision on his future ahead. Should he choose not to leave the Bergamo outfit, it could come as a big blow for Tottenham, who had earmarked signing the Nigerian in the January window.
Thomas Frank has some problems with the wide attacking zones, and had identified Lookman back in the summer as Savinho’s alternative. However, they were prepared to test the waters with a bid in January, but for now, they may first have to wait on the player’s decision on whether or not to leave in January, then speak with Atalanta over any potential move, which may not materialise.
