Liverpool are having doubts about Adam Wharton amid interest, as they may be one of the clubs not keen on paying a high asking price.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool have had doubts over Adam Wharton’s game, following a lacklustre performance for England. The 21-year-old Premier League sensation has been high on the radars of several top clubs, including the Reds, as Crystal Palace are hoping to deter suitors with a massive asking price.

Adam Wharton remains high on the shortlist of multiple top teams in the Premier League owing to his amazing performances in a Crystal Palace shirt. The midfielder has been instrumental for Oliver Glasner’s side, as he also helped them win the FA Cup and the Community Shield this year.

The 21-year-old Premier League sensation is also getting regular call-ups to the England squad, and it appears he might be on the plane to next year’s World Cup. The midfielder has courted plenty of interest from some of the top teams, including Liverpool, who had been tracking him since the end of the summer window.

Liverpool have been in the market for a holding midfielder, having failed to lure Martin Zubimendi back in the summer of 2024. Since then, they have not particularly chased anyone else, but Wharton could be the next player high on their list.

However, owing to his performances for England, the media did not paint a good picture of his display. Liverpool reportedly feels internally that he may have to prove himself at the highest level far too consistently, and certainly does not warrant the high asking price Crystal Palace are seemingly demanding to sell him.

Liverpool are not the only team keen to sign the 21-year-old Premier League sensation, with Chelsea also interested in Wharton as an option for their midfield. Crystal Palace are reportedly demanding a fee of around £100 million, which most of Wharton’s suitors are unwilling to fork out, as per the story.

Palace have held initial contract talks with Wharton’s camp, which could be a signal that the club are eager to keep him rather than lose him like some of their other stars recently. Hence, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool or others can prise the 21-year-old away from Selhurst Park or whether his future will be with Glasner’s side for the time being and long-term future.
