Everton eyeing Scott McTominay swoop
Everton will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old Scottish international Scott McTominay from Serie A champions Napoli next year.
According to a report by Football Insider, Scott McTominay is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing an attacking midfielder next year. So, the 28-year-old Napoli talisman has emerged as a target for the Merseyside club.
Interestingly, the report has revealed that Everton manager David Moyes views the Scot as “a talismanic presence in the mould of his former totem Marouane Fellaini” due to his ability to “get forward and cause chaos in the opposition box”. However, signing McTominay from Napoli will be a tall order.
Scott McTominay and his career-defining move
Scott McTominay has blossomed into one of the world’s best players since joining Napoli from Manchester United last year. The 28-year-old hit the ground running at the Serie A club, and his performances helped the Partenopei win the league title in the 2024/25 season. That also earned the Scotsman individual plaudits, including Serie A MVP and 18th place in the 2025 Ballon d’Or list.
The Scottish international has also been solid thus far in the 2025/26 season, chipping in with four goals and one assist in 14 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, McTominay’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Everton will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.
Premier League return beckons?
Everton’s interest in Scott McTominay makes sense. The Toffees are combing the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the next two transfer windows, as they are in a spot of bother over James Garner’s long-term future amid emerging speculation on his future. While Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall can take over from Garner if he leaves, McTominay can reprise the role Dewsbury-Hall currently essays.
Garner has thus emerged as a viable target for Everton, with David Moyes viewing the 28-year-old Scot as “a talismanic presence in the mould of his former totem Marouane Fellaini” due to his ability to “get forward and cause chaos in the opposition box”. However, Everton will face stiff competition for his signature, with recent reports linking him with Manchester United and other bigwigs.
Additionally, signing McTominay from Napoli will be a tall order, as recent reports have revealed that the Scottish international is happy at the Serie A club. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Manchester United star.
