Liverpool eyeing €80 million move for Alessandro Bastoni
Liverpool are reportedly preparing an €80 million offer to test Inter Milan’s resolve on key defender Alessandro Bastoni in January.
According to Fichajes, Alessandro Bastoni could be a major target for Liverpool ahead of the January window. The Merseysiders are reportedly preparing an €80 million bid to test Inter Milan’s resolve as they seek to solve a major problem in their defensive line by signing a new centre-back.
Liverpool finished the summer window on a high note with the late arrival of Alexander Isak for a club and British record move. However, in the eleventh hour on deadline day, they saw a deal for Marc Guehi collapse, as Crystal Palace pulled the plug due to their inability to sign a replacement.
The failure to land Guehi has landed Liverpool in some trouble, as there are defensive problems for Arne Slot at the current moment. To make matters worse, they lost summer arrival, Giovanni Leoni, to a season-ending ACL injury in his first game for the club, as they are short in the central defensive ranks.
Hence, Arne Slot wants a new central defender as a priority when the January window opens, as they have explored a few names in the market. Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is an option they might consider making a bid for, while Dayot Upamecano is another, although the Frenchman may not be available in January.
Inter Milan are also keen on Upamecano and could make a move if they anticipates a departure for key man Alessandro Bastoni. Liverpool have been keen on Bastoni since earlier this year, and now they could cement their interest with a serious bid for the 26-year-old Serie A-winning defender in January.
Liverpool are preparing Bastoni bid
Liverpool are reportedly preparing an €80 million bid to test Inter Milan’s resolve on Bastoni. They are certainly not alone in the race, as there are others in the mix for the Italian international. The arrival of Bastoni could allow Slot to have different options, and possibly even deal with the potential blow next summer if Ibrahima Konate leaves the club.
From a sporting sense, they certainly need a new centre-back, and the fact that they have been looking for a left-footed option makes Bastoni as a good enough option, Now, all eyes will be on Inter Milan if Liverpool do end up making the bod for the 26-year-old Serie A-winning defender, as losing him midway through the season will be a blow to their own ambitions for the campaign.
