Tottenham considering Jean-Philippe Mateta swoop
Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old French international Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace next year.
According to a report by Football Insider, Jean-Philippe Mateta is the subject of interest of Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker in one of the next two transfer windows. So, the 28-year-old Crystal Palace centre-forward has emerged as a target for the North London outfit.
The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners have identified several candidates to reinforce their attack, with Dusan Vlahovic also a target. However, the decision-makers at Tottenham believe Mateta is an ideal option to lead the line, although a winter move for the Frenchman will unlikely materialise.
Jean-Philippe Mateta and his recent rise
Jean-Philippe Mateta has made significant progress since joining Crystal Palace from FSV Mainz 05. While the 28-year-old did not hit the ground running at the South London club, he has transformed into a prolific striker under Oliver Glasner, becoming one of the most underrated players in the Premier League in the last two years.
The French striker has been hot off the blocks in the 2025/26 campaign, scoring seven goals in 16 outings across all competitions thus far. Mateta’s progress in the last two seasons has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Tottenham Hotspur will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.
Move across London on the cards?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta is understandable. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window, as Dominic Solanke has struggled to make his mark since arriving from Bournemouth last year. Meanwhile, Richarlison faces an uncertain future at Tottenham, and the North London club may cash in on him next year.
Additionally, it is unclear if Randal Kolo Muani will complete a permanent move next year. Several candidates, including Dusan Vlahovic, have thus emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Mateta also a viable target.
