Johan Bakayoko has €60m release clause in RB Leipzig contract

Sport Bild (via FT) reports that RB Leipzig winger Johan Bakayoko has a release clause in his contract with the club.

Bakayoko joined the Red Bull side in the summer from PSV Eindhoven for €18m, signing a contract at the club until 2030. To fight off interest from other Bundesliga sides, including Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, a release clause has been included in the Belgian’s contract.

The value of the clause is said to be €60m, however, at the Red Bull Arena, they still hold all the power when it comes to the price for the 22-year-old. Leipzig can buy out the release clause in Bakayoko’s contract, and in turn, the winger will receive a small fee. The clause must be bought out before the end of the season.

Bakayoko’s start to life at Leipzig:

The Belgian joined the club at a turbulent time, with a large amount of turnover in their attack, as Benjamin Sesko, Lois Openda, and Xavi Simons all left the Red Bull Arena. But, after a rough 6-0 loss to Bayern Munich in their opening game of the season, Bakayoko and his new teammates have settled.

In their past eight games, Leipzig have won seven and drawn once, against Borussia Dortmund. The 23-year-old has contributed three goals in that period, including winners against Mainz and Wolfsburg.
