Chelsea, Liverpool hold talks to sign Dayot Upamecano
Chelsea and Liverpool are in talks to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to the signing of Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are all keen on signing Dayot Upamecano in 2026. With his contract at Bayern Munich running out at the end of the season, all four European clubs are eyeing a Bosman move. The Premier League bigwigs have held talks this month about signing the French international as they look to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature.
Upamecano made a name for himself at RB Leipzig before joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2021. The Frenchman has only gone from strength to strength since, and he has been one of their mainstays of late. While he remains one of the first names on their team sheet under Vincent Kompany, his future has become a big talking point.
The 27-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of the season, and he could choose to leave the club for free. Bayern Munich are working hard to renew his deal, and they are confident about striking a deal with the French defender. However, the Bavarian giants are wary of the increasing interest in him as he will be free to sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs starting in January.
La Liga giants want to sign Dayot Upamecano
Upamecano’s agents are already assessing all the options at their disposal. They have reportedly spoken to Real Madrid and Barcelona to gauge their interest in his services. Both clubs are considering making a move for him.
Los Blancos could end up parting ways with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba at the end of the season, with their contracts running out, and Dayot Upamecano could come in to help replace them. Meanwhile, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen could end up leaving Barcelona next summer, and they see Upamecano as a great option to reinforce Hansi Flick’s backline.
Premier League clubs are looking to beat the competition
While the Spanish giants are keen on securing his signature, Chelsea and Liverpool are looking to leapfrog them in the race. Both Premier League clubs have held discussions about signing the 27-year-old on a free transfer next summer.
Marc Guehi seems to be their priority target at this stage, but they also have their eyes set on the French defender in case they fail to land the Crystal Palace skipper. With Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain, Upamecano could be just the perfect replacement. Meanwhile, the Blues want more depth at the back as injuries have troubled them a lot, and someone with Upmecano’s experience could significantly bolster their defence.
