Aston Villa to compete with Euro giants for Nahuel Molina

Aston Villa could look at the possibility of chasing Nahuel Molina from Atletico Madrid, but faces European competition for the Argentine defender.

According to Ekrem Konur, Aston Villa are reportedly interested in a move for Nahuel Molina ahead of January. Unai Emery is eager to bolster his defensive ranks with the Atletico Madrid star, but faces big competition from the Italian trio of AS Roma, Juventus, and Inter Milan.

Nahuel Molina has been a good signing for Atletico Madrid when they signed him from Udinese back in the summer of 2022. In the three seasons at the club, the World Cup-winning defender has been a key part of Diego Simeone’s setup and making that unorthodox right-back slot his own.

For some reason or another, Simeone has not preferred to use him much this season, which has cast doubts over his immediate future. Molina will be eager to get back on the pitch regularly and play plenty of minutes ahead of defending his World Cup crown in the summer.

Without regular minutes, he could face the dangers of missing out on the plane to the World Cup next summer. Hence, a January move is all the more possible, as some key teams are showing an interest in signing the World Cup-winning defender.

Aston Villa are keen on the defender, as Unai Emery is eager to bolster his backline with an experienced star ahead of the second part of the season. The fact that Molina will enter the final 18 months of his deal at Atletico, and if the right offer arrives, the Spanish giants might be tempted. However, Simeone seemingly values his presence in the team and might push to keep him.

Aston Villa faces Nahuel Molina competition

Aston Villa are not planning on making a move for Milona as a replacement of any sort, given they have agreed a deal with Matty Cash of late. Hence, the World Cup-winning defender is seen as a solid addition to the team, but they face big competition from European giants.

Juventus are keen to sign Molina if the opportunity arises, while the World Cup-winning defender is also chased by AS Roma and Inter Milan. A return to Italy could be on the cards for Molina, as this is a league he knows very well following a few years with Udinese previously. However, Aston Villa could offer him a route into the Premier League, which has been tempting for many players of late.
