Newcastle United make Bruno Guimaraes, Valentino Livramento contract decisions
Manchester City have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of Newcastle United duo Bruno Guimaraes and Valentino Livramento.
According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are working hard to secure the long-term future of Bruno Guimaraes and Valentino Livramento. Manchester City are one of the clubs that are keen on signing the duo, but they have suffered a blow as the Magpies have intensified efforts to extend their stay at the club.
While it hasn’t been the best of starts to the season for the Tyneside club, they have followed up their 3-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Fulham in the league. Having returned to winning ways, Eddie Howe’s team will now look to build on these results.
Newcastle are looking to meet their ambitions on the pitch, and at the same time, they are also working hard to ensure the core of their team remains intact. Given how things panned out in the Alexander Isak saga during the summer, the Magpies are looking to secure the long-term future of some of their stars with new deals.
O’Rourke on Newcastle’s future plans
While speaking about the Tyneside club’s ambitions off the pitch, Pete O’Rourke said: “Yeah, I think it would be ideal for Newcastle if they could tie down Bruno to a new deal.
“I think there’ll be a willingness probably from all parties to sit down and discuss a new deal.
“It does seem that the new sporting director Ross Wilson is setting out, looking to discuss potential new deals with a number of their star players.
“He wants to end any speculation over their futures and to avoid any sort of similar situation that they have with Alexander Isak.
“So yeah, I’m sure at some point in the near future, will be talks held with Bruno and his people to see if they can agree a new deal.”
A new deal for Guimaraes
Bruno Guimaraes, who bagged an injury-time winner against Fulham, has established himself as one of the mainstays at Newcastle. Given his importance in Eddie Howe’s team, the Magpies want to sort out his future on a priority basis.
While his current deal runs until 2028, they want to ward off any interest in him with a new lucrative deal for the Brazilian midfielder. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are very keen on his signature. As a result, Newcastle’s new sporting director, Ross Wilson, has already stepped up his efforts to tie him down to a new deal.
They are expected to soon hold talks with his camp, and there seems to be a willingness from both parties to pen a contract extension. Apart from Guimaraes, the Tyneside club also want to secure the future of Livramento, who has been a long-term target for Guardiola’s team.
Livramento could also put pen to paper
City are massive admirers of the 22-year-old full-back, and they were linked with him during the summer. They believe he could become one of the mainstays of their project and are willing to fork out a bid fee to bring him to Manchester.
However, Newcastle have no intentions of letting him leave. Despite him having three years left on his deal, the Tyneisde club are pushing for a new deal, and the English international seems quite content at the club. He is reportedly open to a potential new deal.
Wilson has already put in plans to discuss fresh terms with a number of key players at Newcastle, and it will be interesting to see how those talks pan out in the coming weeks.
