Blow for OH Leuven as key player set to be out for eight weeks
During OH Leuven’s 1-0 defeat to Club Brugge last weekend, the sides central midfielder Siebe Schrijvers ended up limping off after almost opening the scoring on the counter. It turns out that Schrijvers has now suffered a cartilage injury which will, according to HLN, keep him out for around eight weeks. This is a huge blow for OH Leuven, who have been struggling so far this season and can ill afford to miss a player like Schrijvers who has been one of their better performers in recent seasons. It means that Wouter George is likely to see an extended run in the first team. This is depending on whether or not the side appoint a new head coach, which is expected to happen at some point next week.
The 29-year-old Schrijvers joined OH Leuven during the 2020/2021 season from Club Brugge. Initially coming into senior football as an attacking player, Schrijvers has converted into a solid central midfielder. Since joining OH Leuven he has played 158 games for the side, scoring 20 goals. His best return in terms of goals and assists was last season, where he scored eight and provided four assists in 40 games.
