Summer Moves Started Rift Between Tudor and Juventus Brass
Igor Tudor and Juventus will face a key test against Real Madrid on Wednesday. Even though the result probably won’t determine the boss’ fate, a debacle could further tip the scales in favor of an abrupt coaching change.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the tension and disagreements between the gaffer and the management commenced during the summer. The Croat felt that his advice was ignored and that the directors decided the additions on their own.
Tudor wanted Juventus to bring back Randal Kolo Muani at all costs. He doesn’t dislike Jonathan David, but the Frenchman has different traits and is more versatile. Plus, he had already acclimated to Serie A.
The only direct request by the manager that was fulfilled was the acquisition of Francisco Conceiçao, who was on loan. Instead, he would have gladly kept Alberto Costa rather than trade him for Joao Mario, and was skeptical about signing Edon Zhegrova because of his injury history. He would have instead invested in a top-notch midfielder.
The boss actually considered resigning right after the final round amid the chatter about the return of Antonio Conte. Ironically enough, Cristiano Giuntoli convinced him to stay, but the exec was fired shortly thereafter.
Our Take on Juventus and Tudor
It doesn’t take juicy backstories to know that their new brass inherited the coach rather than choosing him. Their support for him has been the bare minimum. In these situations, it’s not uncommon for officials to do what they prefer on the market, as the coach is always the one to pay the price. He’ll have a couple of chances, but he seemed like a dead man walking in his outburst in the pre-game presser.
