RB Leipzig prospect Viggo Gebel suffers season ending injury
RB Leipzig confirm that Viggo Gebel (17) has suffered a season ending injury, sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the club’s U19 match against Hallescher FC.
The Saxony club announced that Gebel would undergo surgery on Thursday, and “will likely miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season.”
Marcel Schäfer, Leipzig’s managing director, said: “We’re fully behind Viggo as a club and will support him throughout every stage of his recovery. He can be sure that the entire first team is wishing him a speedy and complete recovery – and we’ll be by his side as he works his way back onto the pitch.”
Gebel started seven games for RB Leipzig U19s in the league this season, scoring one goal.
Sebastian Heidinger, the club’s U19 coach, added: “This is a tough blow – especially for Viggo, who’s a key part of our U19 side. We wish him a successful operation and want him to know that we’re here for him every step of the way.”
