Arsenal, Tottenham, Juventus rival Manchester United in Morten Hjulmand chase
Manchester United are set to face competition from Arsenal, Tottenham, and Juventus in their pursuit of Sporting CP skipper Morten Hjulmand.
Morten Hjulmand’s future has become a massive talking point as some of the biggest clubs in the world are after his signature. According to Ekrem Konur, Manchester United will have to battle the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, and Juventus if they are to sign Ruben Amorim’s former midfield general.
Amorim was the one who signed Hjulmand at Sporting CP in the summer of 2023 on the back of his impressive performances at US Lecce. The 26-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since moving to Portugal.
The Dane has been handed the captain’s armband because of the impact that he has had since joining them. While he prefers playing in the holding role, the Danish international is equally effective further up the pitch. Morten Hjulmand’s versatility and consistent performances have attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
European giants to battle for Sporting mainstay
While Morten Hjulmand’s contract at Sporting CP runs until the summer of 2028, he is unlikely to be around for long, even though he is protected by an €80 million release clause. Manchester United are obviously one of the clubs that are keen on signing him.
Amorim would love to reunite with the 26-year-old at Old Trafford. With Casemiro expected to leave the club at the end of the season, Hjulmand could be just the perfect replacement. However, the Red Devils will have to battle the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus for his signature.
While the Serie A giants are keen on his signature, they are unlikely to go all out and fork out €60-70 million to sign the Danish midfielder, as their priority is to sign a world-class striker. However, Arsenal and Spurs could certainly make things difficult for Manchester United.
Mikel Arteta wants more competition in the centre of the park, and Morten Hjulmand could prove to be a valuable addition with his versatility. Meanwhile, Thomas Frank is not pleased with the options he has in midfield and signing a top-quality player is a priority for him.
As a result, Spurs could go big to bring Hjulmand to the club. However, Amorim’s connection with the 26-year-old could certainly hand Manchester United an advantage in the race. But it still does not guarantee that they will be able to land him.
