What Newcastle United must do to keep Sandro Tonali

Newcastle United must show ambition on the pitch to keep hold of star players like Sandro Tonali, who remains linked with a return to Italy.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United may have to show their commitment to winning silverware in the present and future to stand a chance of keeping hold of key stars. Sandro Tonali is the name mentioned in the report, who has massive interest from Italy.

Sandro Tonali has had his share of ups and downs, but the midfielder has come out stronger and become a key player under Eddie Howe. That was the aim for Newcastle United, who had spent a big sum to sign the Italian international from AC Milan a couple of seasons ago.

At the moment, Tonali is one of the main men for Howe in his system, and Newcastle United had plans to extend his deal at the club. Tonali’s current agreement lasts until 2028, which might open a window of opportunity for interested parties to make their presence felt in the race next summer.

Newcastle United have no plans to sell Tonali amid links to Serie A, with a host of clubs there keen to explore a move for the in-demand first-team star. Juventus are prioritising a move for the midfielder in the near future, with some reports even stating a part-exchange deal could be explored by the Bianconeri.

A return to the Serie A could be appealing to Tonali, although the Italian clubs are not the only ones, with PSG also keen on the midfielder. However, Newcastle United have the power in negotiations at the moment, and should they keep competing at the highest levels, they may not need to worry about losing star players like the in-demand first-team star.

Newcastle United must convince Sandro Tonali

Newcastle United finished in the Champions League places last summer, and must keep competing in the premier European competition to help keep hold of all key stars at the club. Tonali is certainly in the bracket of stars like Bruno Guimaraes or Anthony Gordon, as the club must show ambition to win silverware.

For now, Newcastle United have nothing to worry about the future of Tonali. If they manage to tie the midfielder down to a new deal, then the foreseeable future of the midfielder will be at Tyneside. However, much will depend on how soon that agreement can come to fruition, as Serie A sides like Juventus continue to lurk in the background.
