Xabi Alonso wants Real Madrid to sign Enzo Fernandez

Xabi Alonso wants Real Madrid to land Enzo Fernandez as the club’s next big midfield signing, with Chelsea likely to demand a top-bracket fee.

According to Fichajes, Enzo Fernandez is a firm target for Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid ahead of the next summer window. The Argentine midfielder is seen as the ideal fit for the system at the Bernabeu, with Chelsea likely to demand a top bracket fee that could see them make a profit on their investment.

Enzo Fernandez was a Chelsea record signing when the Londoners decided to splash more than £106 million on the midfielder who had recently won the World Cup. Despite initial criticisms over his performances, the former Benfica man has gained a massive reputation as one of the main men at Stamford Bridge.

He is one of the most vital stars at Chelsea, if not the most important, which allows the club to value him rather highly in the top bracket. Hence, should any interested club come in with an approach, Chelsea are likely to demand a fee that sees them make a healthy profit.

As it stands, Real Madrid are the ones keeping tabs on Fernandez, as they have been since the summer window. New boss Xabi Alonso reportedly views the 24-year-old Chelsea star as a key addition to his side and will push the club to get a deal in place.

Many media reports during the summer insisted that Fernandez would be open to a switch to the Bernabeu, as is the case with most players. However, Chelsea’s demand could see Real Madrid rethink their interest in the midfielder, although things could get clearer ahead of the time when the window opens next summer.

Real Madrid is seeking a top-draw midfielder

Alnoso feels the club have not sufficiently replaced the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos since their departures. Hence, there have been talk of signing a new plush midfielder who helps Alonso control things in the middle of the park.

A variety of names have been mentioned in that regard, but the problem with all of those is the potential high asking price from their respective clubs. For instance, Real Madrid could reconsider their interest in Rodri, and as is the case with another Chelsea midfielder in Moises Caicedo. As for Fernandez, there could be a chance for them to sign the 24-year-old Chelsea star only if they can pay a hefty fee next summer.
