Tottenham prioritising new deal for Micky van de Ven

Tottenham are ready to reward key defensive star Micky van de Ven with a new deal to ward off any possibility of rival interest in the Dutchman.

According to TBR, Micky van de Ven’s new contract is a priority for Tottenham and CEO Vinai Venkatesham. The north Londoners are eager to avoid an unpleasant scenario with the Dutchman’s immediate and long-term future, especially with a few notable teams already looking closely at the defender.

Micky van de Ven has been a revelation since his move to Tottenham from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023. The defender has not only established himself at the club but also in the Premier League as one of its top-tier defenders on the left-hand side.

There’s an element of versatility in his game that has seen Van de Ven play as a left-back for the Netherlands national side, which showcases his wide range of talents. However, from a Spurs perspective, Thomas Frank views him as one of the top bracket central defenders and is likely to keep playing him there regardless.

However, there’s a small matter of sorting his future out as Spurs had planned on a new deal for the defender who currently makes £50,000-a-week and has a deal until 2028. While there’s no immediate danger of losing him next summer, Tottenham are eager to keep him happy and reward him for his stellar rise within the ranks.

A host of top-rated clubs are already looking at the Dutchman ahead of a potential approach in the future. Tottenham are keen to avoid such conversations altogether, as CEO Vinai Venkatesham is prioritising a new deal for Van de Ven and wants to conclude it before the end of the year.

Tottenham are aware of rival interest

Tottenham want to reward the £50,000-a-week star with a new deal that could potentially more than double his current earnings. One of the main reasons for their decision on a new agreement is to thwart rival interest, especially from the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid.

While Spurs and Chelsea are dealing for a player might seem difficult, Real Madrid are already thinking about a move for the defender. The Spanish giants are in the market for a new defender next summer, and could view Van de Ven as a solid option, although they also have other names such as Marc Guehi and Ibrahima Konate on their list. Hence, Spurs are eager to keep hold of the Dutchman for the long term and will hope to agree on a new deal soon.
