Marc Guehi unfazed by transfer talk, committed to Crystal Palace for the season
Liverpool and Real Madrid defensive target Marc Guehi to continue at Selhurst Park until the end of the season.
Since failing to secure a move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day in the summer, Marc Guehi has been constantly linked with a move away from the club. However, the English international has not been fazed by all the talk about his future.
According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Guehi is fully committed to doing his best for Crystal Palace this season. He wants to be in the best of form heading into next summer’s World Cup and will think about his future post that.
O’Rourke on Marc Guehi’s future
While speaking on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said, “He’s very relaxed about his future, you can see in the press conferences he’s done with Palace and England.
“Guehi’s focus at the minute is just on Crystal Palace, playing well for them and playing well for England ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
“He is determined to be part of the squad that goes to the World Cup, and to make sure of that, he needs consistency at club level as well.
“Look, it’s almost inevitable that he will leave Palace on a free transfer next summer. I don’t think there’s any chance he will sign a new contract.
“He’s content to see out his contract there, and a January deal could be possible, but I think it’s more likely this will run until the end of the season.
“In that respect, it will be an open race for his signature on a free next summer.
“Liverpool are still fully in this race for Guehi, but the player’s in the box seat right now and that’s why he’s so relaxed because he will have a lot of control over his future.“
Marc Guehi’s future has been a big talking point in the recent season. The 25-year-old was linked with a move away from Crystal Palace throughout the summer, and he almost joined Liverpool on deadline day. The Reds had an agreement in place with Crystal Palace.
However, Steve Parish pulled the plug on the deal in the eleventh hour after the club failed to sign a replacement. While Guehi had undergone a medical at Anfield, he was forced to return to Selhurst Park. The English international was not pleased with how things panned out.
Real Madrid have entered the race for Guehi
But that has not hampered his performances on the pitch. While clubs like Real Madrid have now entered the race for his signature, Marc Guehi is not thinking about his future at this point. Los Blancos are looking for a new centre-back amidst uncertainty around Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba’s future.
The English centre-back is quite high on their wishlist, and they would love to sign someone of his quality for free. But Real Madrid might have to wait until the summer to negotiate with his camp. The 25-year-old is not looking to rush into a decision at a crucial stage of his career.
The Crystal Palace captain wants to do his best for the South London club this season and prepare himself for the upcoming World Cup. Following the global event, the 25-year-old might look at all the options on his table before making a final decision.
Liverpool remain in the mix and will certainly try to sign him for free next summer. However, the Reds will face significant competition from other European giants.
