Newcastle United submit contract offer to Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United will attempt to secure the long-term future of Bruno Guimaraes after offering him a new five-year contract, which comes with a 50 per cent pay rise.

According to a report by Brazilian outlet UOL, Bruno Guimaraes is the subject of interest of Saudi Pro League clubs. The big-spending outfits view the Newcastle United midfield mainstay as their next marquee arrival for 2026. However, the Magpies are unwilling to part ways with the Brazilian international anytime soon.

The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners have offered the Rio de Janeiro native a new five-year contract, which comes with a significant pay rise. The deal will take Guimaraes’s annual salary from €10 million to €15 million. With the former Lyon midfielder enjoying himself at Newcastle United, an extended stay with the Tyneside outfit may be on the cards despite the links with Saudi clubs.

Bruno Guimaraes and his time in the Premier League

Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as one of the world’s best midfielders since joining Newcastle United from Lyon in January 2022. The 27-year-old hit the ground running at St. James’ Park, initially guiding the Tyneside outfit to safety from relegation in the Premier League before helping them become European regulars. The player was also instrumental in Newcastle’s EFL Cup triumph last season.

The Brazilian international has made over 150 appearances thus far for Newcastle United while chipping in with 24 goals and 27 assists. Meanwhile, the Newcastle United midfielder’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of European bigwigs and Saudi Pro League outfits.

What next?

The summer transfer window also witnessed links with Saudi Pro League clubs, as Al-Ittihad wanted to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. The continued interest makes sense, as the big-spending clubs are scouring the market for their next marquee arrival.

Widespread reports have also linked the South American midfielder with Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola an admirer of his talent. However, Guimaraes is happy at Newcastle United, with the Tyneside outfit eager to keep hold of him for the long haul. They have now submitted a new five-year contract to the player.

The new deal will take Guimaraes’s annual salary from €10 million to €15 million. With the 27-year-old Brazilian international happy at St. James’ Park, an extended stay is on the cards. So, the Saudi Pro League clubs must look elsewhere for a new midfielder.
