Liverpool could face complexities in Willian Pacho chase due to stiff competition, PSG stance
Liverpool faces plenty of challenges ahead if they are to pursue Willian Pacho as a key defensive target, with PSG uninterested in a sale.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool face complexities in their chase of Willian Pacho. PSG’s stance on the defender will be a key aspect ahead of next summer, while there is also rival interest in the Ecuadorian defender. Meanwhile, the Reds view him as a top alternative to Marc Guehi.
Liverpool have faced plenty of criticism for their performances before the current international break. Not only have the Reds squandered a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings, but they also lost a crucial UEFA Champions League clash away at Galatasaray, which could affect their ability to finish in the top eight.
One of the major areas of concern for the Merseyside outfit is defensive depth, as they have been exposed at the back time and again. One of the reasons is their inability to land Marc Guehi in the summer, after Crystal Palace pulled the plug on a deal in the eleventh hour on deadline day.
Liverpool retain confidence about signing Guehi for free next summer, but the situation has gotten all the more complicated since they missed out on the centre-back. Real Madrid are keen to sign the Crystal Palace captain on a free transfer, while other big teams are angling for a move next summer.
Guehi feels no obligation to join Liverpool when his Crystal Palace contract expires, as the Reds are already looking into the market for quality alternatives. Willian Pacho is being considered as such an option, but there are obvious challenges ahead should Liverpool press with their interest in the Ecuadorian defender.
PSG unlikely to consider Willian Pacho approaches
Liverpool could theoretically offer a project to the defender, who only joined PSG for €45 million in the summer of 2024. Since he arrived in Paris, not only has Pacho taken over one of the key central defensive roles, but he was also instrumental in PSG’s treble-winning campaign last time out. Hence, PSG are not interested in offloading the centre-back who has a contract with the club until 2029.
There is also competition in place with Chelsea eager to explore a move for the €45 million PSG star, while others are keeping close tabs. However, PSG are uninterested, and with Guehi also coming across as someone not guaranteed to join Liverpool, the Premier League champions may have to look elsewhere to add depth to their defensive setup.
