Joshua Zirkzee expected to move to a European club instead of Premier League in January

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly expected to leave the club in the winter transfer window.

Joshua Zirkzee has failed to live up to expectations at Manchester United, and they could move on. According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, the 24-year-old is likely to join a European club instead of continuing in the Premier League. He is expected to be on the move when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Dutchman needs to play regularly to continue his development. Sitting on the bench at Manchester United will not benefit him at this stage of his career. Benjamin Sesko is currently the first-choice striker at Manchester United, and the Netherlands international will not get regular opportunities at the club if he stays.

It would be ideal for him to move on in search of regular playing time, especially with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon. It remains to be seen where he ends up. Meanwhile, the player has no lack of interest in his services, with AS Roma, Everton, and West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Zirkzee has shown his quality in Italy with Bologna in the past, and there is no doubt that he is a quality player. Perhaps a fresh start could bring out the best in him. The move to Manchester United has not worked out well for him. He has struggled to adapt to the Premier League.

Manchester United need to get rid of Zirkzee

Manchester United will look to get rid of their fringe players as well. It will be interesting to see if they decide to invest in another striker after getting rid of the Netherlands international in January. It remains to be seen whether they decide to sell the player permanently.

Alternatively, they could send him out on loan if they fail to find a suitable club ready to pay the asking price. They will hope that Zirkzee can impress during the second half of the season so that they can sell him for a reasonable amount of money at the end of the season. The player will be desperate to get his career back on track. He should look to join a competitive team where he will be able to fight for trophies.
