Real Madrid prefer Marc Guehi to Ibrahima Konate
Real Madrid would prefer to sign Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Marc Guehi over Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate.
According to a report from Fichajes, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is now at the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist to reinforce their backline next summer. While Los Blancos also had their eyes on Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, they would prefer to sign the English international.
The Spanish giants did sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth this summer, but they seem keen on adding more quality and depth to their backline going forward. While Huijsen has had an instant impact at the Spanish club, and he has been a regular starter for Xabi Alonso’s team, they do need more options at the back with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger’s future up in the air.
The duo’s contract is running out, and since both of them are in the final phase of their career, they could end up leaving Los Blancos at the end of the season. The team in white are already looking for players who can replace them in the long run.
Guehi will be Real Madrid’s priority target
The Spanish giants are looking at the free agent market, and they do have two top names on their wishlist in Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. The Premier League duo have entered the final year of their contract, and they do not seem keen on penning a new deal.
While Konate was initially seen as their priority target, reports suggest that Real Madrid would now prefer signing Guehi, a massive relief for the Merseyside club, as it could boost their chances of extending the Frenchman’s stay.
The England international’s consistent performances in the Premier League and his leadership qualities have given him the edge over the Liverpool defender. The 25-year-old was on the verge of joining Arne Slot’s team in the summer, but Palace blocked the move on deadline day.
While the Reds remain keen on his signature, Real Madrid have a massive advantage over the Merseyside club as they can start talks with Guehi as early as January. They could reach a pre-agreement with the Palace skipper well in advance.
