RB Leipzig open to selling Castello Lukeba for €60 million

RB Leipzig could be open to selling key defender Castello Lukeba for much lower than his release clause, as a host of Premier League sides are interested.

According to Caught Offside, Castello Lukeba could be an option for some of the top clubs who were interested in the defender ahead of January. RB Leipzig are open to selling the defender for much less than his current release clause, with a price of €60 million being quoted.

Castello Lukeba has been a sensational signing for RB Leipzig since he arrived from Lyon in the 2023 summer window. He has been a key defender on that side, although the failure to qualify for the Champions League has led to an exodus of sorts from the German giants.

Lukeba was of interest to the likes of Liverpool, although the Merseysiders ended up signing Giovanni Leoni from Parma. The Italian defender has since suffered a season-ending ACL rupture, which could force the Merseysiders into action and bring in a new defender in the winter window.

With regards to Lukeba, the Merseysiders are not alone in the race, as Chelsea are also understood to be in the market for a new central defender. The France international does fit into the mould of what the Blues are looking at in terms of age and profile, as they too have a key central defensive injury at the back with Levi Colwill likely to miss the remainder of the season with an ACL rupture of his own.

Chelsea are looking at some names in the market, and Lukeba could be on the list, particularly at the prices being quoted in the report. Manchester United were also interested in the defender earlier, but whether they are prioritising a move for the defender remains to be seen, as they have other priorities.

RB Leipzig is ready to sell Castello Lukeba at a discount

RB Leipzig are ready to sell Lukeba at a discounted price, with the report stating they are willing to accept bids in the region of €60 million. That price is considerably lower than the €90 million release clause in his contract, which may attract a few of his suitors like Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

The €90 million-rated Bundesliga defender is considered one of the top centre-back profiles in Europe, and there could be more clubs than the Premier League trio in the race. Leipzig are probably ready to accept a lower deal for the defender as they may need to bring in the funds after missing out on European football this season.
