Liverpool prioritising Ousmane Diomande as Ibrahima Konate replacement
Arne Slot’s Liverpool have identified Sporting CP defensive mainstay Ousmane Diomande as an ideal replacement for Ibrahima Konate.
According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Ousmane Diomande. The Reds seek more quality at the back amidst uncertainty around Ibrahima Konate’s future, and they could end up making a move for the Ivorian international when the transfer window reopens.
Diomande has only gone from strength to strength since joining Sporting at the start of 2023. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but the 21-year-old has also placed himself on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs with his consistent performances.
The Ivorian international was on fire for them last season. He was involved in a total of 46 matches. Not only was Diomande rock solid at the back, but the young winger even contributed towards three goals.
The 21-year-old centre-back has had another impressive start to the new season. While he still has two years left on his deal, his future is becoming a massive talking point. Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the Ivorian defender.
Diomande to replace Konate?
The Reds were keen on signing Marc Guehi during the summer. But the move didn’t go according to plan for them. While they retain interest in his signature, Diomande is seen as more of a realistic and cost-effective option for them going forward.
Ibrahima Konate has entered the final year of his contract. He doesn’t seem too keen on a new deal. As a result, there are high chances of him leaving for free. If he does end up leaving, the Reds will go all out to sign Diomande, who is also on Chelsea’s wishlist.
The Blues also seek more quality at the back following a serious injury to Levi Colwill. They want someone who can help them fill the void on the left side of central defence. They consider Diomande an ideal fit for their project.
While the Merseyside club are prioritising the Sporting centre-back’s signing, they can certainly face strong competition from Chelsea, who are constantly looking for young players with massive potential.
