Jamie Redknapp has reportedly told Liverpool that they are missing Real Madrid full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In a conversation on Sky Sports, Jamie Redknapp has had his say on Liverpool’s struggles in the early days of the 2025/26 season. The Liverpool icon has suggested that Arne Slot’s team is missing Trent Alexander-Arnold, hinting that the full-back woes are holding the Merseyside club back thus far.

The former Liverpool midfielder said, “They’ve got problems at full-back. They’re missing Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. They haven’t played the same right-back since the Burnley game. [Conor] Bradley had a tough 45 minutes. [Milos] Kerkez hasn’t quite adapted either – the pressure of playing for Bournemouth isn’t the same.”

“They have problems all over the pitch, but especially at full-back with [Andy] Robertson’s injury at the end. This international break could be a good chance to reset.”

The 2025/26 season has not gone as per the best-laid plans for Liverpool, as they have struggled to make their mark. While the Merseyside outfit began the 2025/26 Premier League season with five successive wins, none of those victories witnessed any convincing performance, leading many to suggest that a defeat was on the cards for Arne Slot’s men.

The first defeat came last weekend as Crystal Palace clinched a late victory to beat Liverpool 2-1 at Selhurst Park. The Reds followed that up with a narrow loss to Galatasaray, and it may have been a reality check. However, the latest loss has left many concerned, and Jamie Redknapp’s suggestion that Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the causes for Liverpool’s struggles may be true.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was the leading light for Liverpool with his forays down the right flank, and his ability to create chances with his vision was a priceless quality that made the team tick for nearly a decade. However, Jeremie Frimpong has struggled to make his mark since joining the Merseyside club from Bayer Leverkusen this past summer.

With Milos Kerkez also struggling to make his mark, the lack of creativity from the full-backs has hurt Liverpool. It will be interesting to see if they can turn things around after the international break or continue slipping in the Premier League standings.
