Real Madrid 2-0 Espanyol player ratings: Eder Militao steps up as Kylian Mbappe stars again
Real Madrid made it five wins from five in La Liga with a commanding 2-0 victory over Espanyol on Saturday afternoon. Here’s how each of their players fared at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Player ratings
Thibaut Courtois – 6.5
Espanyol threatened, especially in the first half, but on the whole, the Real Madrid goalkeeper had little to do.
Dani Carvajal – 7
Solid performance from a man that Real Madrid will need to rely on over the next couple of months, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s hamstring injury diagnosis.
Raul Asencio – 7
Did well on his returning to the starting line-up.
Eder Militao – 8.5
Stepped up brilliantly in the absence of centre-back partner Dean Huijsen. Solid in defence, and topped it off with a sensational opening goal in the first half.
Alvaro Carreras – 7.5
Another quality performance from the 22-year-old, who is quickly turning into one of the signings of the summer.
Aurelien Tchouameni – 7
Tchouameni continued to thrive in his defensive midfield role, another solid display from the Frenchman.
Federico Valverde – 7.5
Ran the midfield alongside Tchouameni on his return to the starting line-up in La Liga, having been given a rest last weekend.
Franco Mastantuono – 7
Very encouraging performance from the teenager, his best in a Real Madrid shirt since joining in the summer. Six successful dribbles!
Vinicius Junior – 7
Looked dangerous on the left wing, and registered an assist for Mbappe’s goal.
Gonzalo Garcia – 6
Not his day, which will be a disappointment for him in his first start of the season.
Kylian Mbappe – 8
He continues to be Real Madrid’s talisman, another goal – and a fine one at that too – and he should have had more, but for goalkeeping heroics from Marko Dmitrovic.

Substitutes
Arda Guler – 6.5
Given a rest from the starting line-up, but looked good during his 30-minute cameo.
Brahim Diaz – 6
Tried his best to help Real Madrid get that elusive third goal.
Rodrygo Goes – 6
Saw little of the ball during his time on the pitch.
Jude Bellingham – 6
Great news for Real Madrid to have him back, and he was involved a lot during his short time on the pitch.
Eduardo Camavinga – 6
Another to make his return from injury, he will be important for Real Madrid in the coming weeks.
