Tottenham told to pay a huge fee for Conor Gallagher
Atletico Madrid are set to demand at least £50 million for Conor Gallagher, with Tottenham keen to bring the midfielder back to England.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham must pay a higher fee to secure Conor Gallagher if they want to bring the midfielder in January. Spurs are keen on the Atletico Madrid star ahead of the winter window, and will demand at least 50 million for the 2024 summer signing.
Tottenham had a good enough summer window, but there was a lingering feeling that their business was incomplete. The north Londoners also wanted to bring in a midfielder, while simultaneously trying to offload unwanted star Yves Bissouma, as neither of those ideas came to fruition.
Ahead of the January window. Thomas Frank could seek a new presence in his midfield to add a bit of dynamism and new ideas. Spurs are eager to sign Conor Gallagher in January, as he is seen as someone to can make a difference to Tottenham’s midfield.
There are suggestions that Gallagher might be frustrated with his role at Atletico Madrid following the club’s summer business that saw them add to the midfield. The speculation surrounding his future is not clear at the moment, although there were teams like Manchester United who reportedly made a late approach for the midfielder in the window.
Manchester United retain an interest in Gallagher, and so do Tottenham, as Atletico Madrid will demand at least £50 million for the midfielder who cost them £33 million in 2024. Whether that is seen as a higher price point for suitors remains to be seen, but Spurs are in a position to pay as much if needed.
Could Conor Gallagher leave Atletico Madrid?
The upcoming months will be crucial for Gallagher to make an immediate call on his future. For now, he has played five times this season, including a start away at Liverpool in the Champions League. However, there are summer arrivals like Johnny Cardoso who are ready to challenge the £33 million La Liga midfielder for his place, which will be a blow to the Englishman’s ambition to play in the World Cup.
Should Diego Simeone curtail his game time, Gallagher would potentially look at England as a destination where he can get regular minutes, which would boost his chances of a spot in England’s World Cup squad. Hence, it’s not to say Spurs do not have a chance, but any move will mainly depend on their ability to pay the required fee for the midfielder.
