Real Madrid interested in Ryan Gravenberch, Xabi Alonso an admirer
Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid are interested in acquiring the services of Liverpool midfield mainstay Ryan Gravenberch.
Xabi Alonso is a massive admirer of Ryan Gravenberch and is keen on having him at his disposal at Real Madrid. According to a report from Fichajes, the team in white are keen on signing the Dutch international, who has exploded at Liverpool in recent seasons.
While things didn’t go according to plan for the Ajax graduate at Bayern Munich, he has certainly revived his career since joining the Merseyside club. He moved to Anfield in the summer of 2023. While the debut season wasn’t that great, Arne Slot has helped him return to his best.
The Dutch manager asked the 23-year-old to take up the holding role last season. While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, Gravenberch made quite an impact in the number six role and played a big part in their Premier League triumph.
He has had a sensational start to the new season. The Dutch international has contributed towards two goals in his first four outings. He has been their standout performer in midfield in terms of duels won and balls retrieved from the opposition half.
Alonso wants to sign Gravenberch
Gravenberch has further enhanced his reputation, and his performances have put him on the radar of Real Madrid. Xabi Alonso seeks a player with a strong physical presence and the ability to distribute the ball from a deeper role.
He wants someone who can feature in the engine room and form the double pivot alongside Aurelien Tchouameni. Alonso feels Gravenberch is an ideal fit for his system, as he can feature as the attacking midfielder and can also help out on the defensive side of things. As a result, he has asked Florentino Perez to bring him to the club.
While Los Blancos already have Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, and Federico Valverde to support Tchouameni, the Liverpool star could add a lot of balance to the mix. However, signing him won’t be that straightforward, as his contract runs until 2028, and the Reds value him at around €75 million.
While it’s a significant fee, the Spanish giants can certainly fork out that big a fee as the 23-year-old could help them both in the short and the long run.
