Barcelona learn asking price for Erling Haaland
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona will have to fork out €100 million to sign Manchester City attacking mainstay Erling Haaland.
According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona are keen on acquiring the services of Erling Haaland. Their president, Joan Laporta, considers the Manchester City striker the main target for the summer of 2026. The Catalan giants will have to pay around €100 million to sign the Norwegian international.
Haaland is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world. After making a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund, he joined City in the summer of 2022 and has only gone from strength to strength since.
The 25-year-old has shattered numerous records since joining City, and he averages a goal contribution every game. In his 150 games for the Manchester-based giants, he has bagged 129 goals and 21 assists.
His exceptional performances have put him on the wishlist of the biggest clubs in the world. Amidst uncertainty around his future, City handed him a massive new deal that runs until 2034. While he only put pen to paper at the start of the year, Haaland could still choose to leave the club in 2026.
His contract doesn’t have a release clause, but if he asks to leave, City are unlikely to stand in his way. Pep Guardiola doesn’t believe in keeping players who are not fully committed to the project. As a result, if Haaland asks for a move away, City will open the door. But they will only let him leave for a fee close to €100 million.
Barcelona want Haaland next summer
The asking price could prove to be a great market opportunity for Barcelona, who have him as a priority target for 2026. The Catalan giants see him as an ideal long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. They believe Haaland could mark an era at the Spanish club alongside Lamine Yamal under Hansi Flick.
The La Liga giants consider the asking price within an acceptable range, given the amount of money top clubs have spent to sign elite strikers in recent years. Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, considers Haaland a top priority. While he does have an eye on other alternatives, he is working hard to ensure they can sign the former Dortmund star.
The finances involved will certainly make it challenging for the Catalan giants, but Deco and Laporta are determined to find a way to bring Haaland to the club.
