Michael Zetterer reveals reason to snub West Ham United in the summer

West Ham United were interested in signing former Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer during the summer transfer window.

West Ham United were keen on bringing in multiple goalkeepers, especially after the disappointing performances of Alphonse Areola last season. The Hammers have been linked with multiple goalkeepers in recent months, and German stopper Michael Zetterer was on their radar, but the player decided to turn them down and move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The experienced goalkeeper was offered a long-term contract by Eintracht Frankfurt, and that made a big difference for him while making his decision. Zetterer has also revealed that he wanted to join an ambitious project and that the Bundesliga outfit were able to provide him with that platform.

“I wanted to stay in Germany, and I really value the Bundesliga. And with a club like Eintracht Frankfurt, I didn’t have to think long,” he said to .

“The ambitious goals appealed to me. I immediately had a good gut feeling, which only improved through discussions with the coaches and management. Of course, a long-term contract [until 2029] was also a deciding factor.”

West Ham have signed Mads Hermansen from Leicester City, and he is expected to be the first-choice goalkeeper at the club throughout the 2025/26 season. He has done quite well for the Foxes in the past, and it will be interesting to see if he can establish himself as a player for the London club.

There is no doubt that the Dane is a quality player, and he has shown that in English football. He has impressed in the Premier League with Leicester City. Hermansen was too good for the Championship, and it is no surprise that he has decided to return to the top flight with West Ham.

Meanwhile, Michael Zetterer will look to continue impressing in Germany and establish himself as a player for Eintracht Frankfurt. The 30-year-old has the experience and the quality to compete at the highest level, and he would’ve been a superb acquisition for the London club if they had managed to get the deal done.
