Real Madrid, Tottenham rival Liverpool in Ronald Araujo chase

Real Madrid and Tottenham have entered the race for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo after Liverpool are also keen.

According to Fichajes, Ronald Araujo could see many suitors come in for his signature, as Tottenham have added themselves alongside surprise contenders Real Madrid in the race. Liverpool are also keen, as Barcelona could sanction a sale for the right price.

Ronald Araujo’s time at Barcelona could be over as a January move away from the Catalan side is all the more possible. The defender has not been preferred by manager Hansi Flick despite the departure of the experienced Inigo Martinez during the summer. After starting the opening two games in La Liga, Flick has not preferred the Uruguayan for the next two, which has fueled fresh speculation.

Tottenham were keen during the summer, but Araujo always prioritised staying at Barcelona, having signed a new deal back in January. However, his current situation could give Spurs renewed hope in the race for the 26-year-old Barcelona star, especially ahead of the January window.

Barcelona are demanding €50 million at the very least, something that the Premier League side could consider, as they are not alone in England. Liverpool are prepared to pay €50 million for Araujo, as they are angling for a big defensive signing in January after missing out on Marc Guehi on deadline day.

Liverpool are not expected to follow through with Guehi in January as they are angling for a free transfer in the summer. However, Real Madrid are threatening to usurp their chase of the Crystal Palace star, while also being in danger of losing their current centre-back, Ibrahima Konate, to the Spanish giants. Hence, an approach in January for the 26-year-old Barcelona star would make sense for the Merseysiders.

Real Madrid are the surprise contenders for Ronald Araujo

Real Madrid are the surprise contenders for Ronald Araujo, as they are keen to bolster their backline with quality additions. Whether they view Araujo as someone who fits their mould remains the question, although the big challenge would be to convince Barcelona to sell their 26-year-old star, especially to their traditional and most-hated rivals.

The chances of Real Madrid landing Araujo might get ruled out as quickly as they were linked. However, that does not rule out the possibility of the 26-year-old Barcelona star leaving in January, especially with Liverpool and Tottenham showing credible interest.
