Leeds United retain Harry Wilson interest, ponder winter move
Leeds United are still interested in signing Harry Wilson, with a fresh approach in January likely to materialise depending on Fulham’s stance.
According to Football Insider, Harry Wilson is a name still high on Leeds United’s shortlist. The Yorkshire side failed with an eleventh-hour deal for the winger, and could return with a fresh approach in January when the Fulham star enters the final six months of his deal at Craven Cottage.
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke was frustrated with a lack of movement late in the transfer market to bolster his attack. The German boss wanted fresh faces to give his side more options, and ultimately looked close tos ecuring a deal for Harry Wilson.
Despite a late bid being rejected by Fulham, Leeds United might have made another bid for the Cottagers to accept. As the Londoners ended up signing Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk and Samuel Chukwueze from AC Milan, there was scope for them to let Wilson leave.
As a deal looked closer than ever, Fulham reportedly pulled the plug on the transfer, with suggestions that Wilson was not fazed by the late drama. The winger, who signed from Liverpool in a £12 million deal back in 2021, has a year left on his deal, as Leeds United are planning a fresh approach in January when he will be into the final six months of his contract.
Leeds United are expecting to convince Fulham into selling, and should the Cottagers decide Wilson’s time was up at the club, they may not want to lose him for free. Hence, a January deal is all the more possible; however, the £12 million Fulham wide man’s game time will also be important.
Will Leeds United sign Harry Wilson?
Leeds United continues to retain a strong interest in Wilson, although any deal in January will be complicated due to a few factors. For starters, Fulham’s asking price will have a bearing on any deal, as Leeds United will not want to pay over the odds.
Secondly, Wilson’s choice will also play a crucial role, as he may opt against joining Leeds United if Farke’s side are, for instance, battling for relegation. Finally, there’s a third scenario where Fulham decides to offer him an extension, and that would overly complicate any pursuit from Leeds United for the £12 million wide man.
