Crystal Palace ready to sell Marc Guehi for €20 million in January
Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid can sign Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Marc Guehi for just €20 million in January.
According to a report from Fichajes, Crystal Palace are ready to sanction the departure of Marc Guehi for just €20 million in the winter transfer window. The Eagles do not want to risk losing him for free at the end of the season, and the bargain price tag ensures there will be no shortage of suitors.
Guehi has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Eagles back in 2021. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but the 25-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world.
With just a year left on his deal, multiple top clubs were linked with him during the recently concluded transfer window. Liverpool were the most serious of all suitors, and they were on the verge of securing his services on transfer deadline day.
But Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish pulled the plug on the deal in the eleventh hour after Oliver Glasner’s intervention as the Eagles had failed to sign an ideal replacement. Palace would have earned around €35 million from his potential departure.
While Guehi’s presence in the team is certainly impactful, deciding against selling him in the summer means the Eagles now risk losing him for free, with less than a year left on his deal.
European giants could battle for Guehi’s signature
However, they do not intend to let him leave for nothing. Palace are now ready to sell him for just €20 million in January, with Liverpool, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all closely monitoring his situation. The bargain price tag is certainly a massive boost for all three clubs, as they could snap up a world-class star for peanuts.
The Reds will undoubtedly return with renewed interest, viewing him as an ideal long-term replacement for their skipper, Virgil van Dijk. Meanwhile, Los Blancos are keen on his signature as they prepare for the potential departure of David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, both of whom have entered the final year of their respective contracts.
Barcelona, on the other hand, are seeking more quality at the back, and the bargain fee certainly supports their cause amid their financial crisis. However, they may still need to sell before making a move for the 25-year-old. Given the injury track record of Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo, investing in Guehi would certainly make sense.
