Adam Wharton committed to Crystal Palace amid exit links, nothing imminent on departure

Real Madrid and Manchester United midfield target Adam Wharton remains committed to Crystal Palace and is unlikely to push for a move away.

Adam Wharton’s sensational rise has not gone unnoticed as multiple top clubs from across Europe want to lure him away from Crystal Palace. While a few clubs did try their luck during the recently concluded transfer window, the Eagles had no intentions of letting him go.

While it has been almost two weeks since the end of the window, the English international is still attracting interest from a host of clubs. However, according to Fabrizio Romano via Give Me Sport, Wharton remains committed to the Crystal Palace project and has no intentions of pushing for an exit despite interest from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

While speaking about Wharton’s future, the Italian transfer expert said, “He is being monitored by many top clubs, yes, but there is nothing imminent now. His full focus is on Crystal Palace. Wharton knows how important this season is for his career.”

Adam Wharton joined the Eagles from Blackburn Rovers at the start of 2024, and he has not looked back since. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but he has also managed to break into the English national team on the back of his consistent performances.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has massive potential, and multiple top clubs want to prise him away. Tottenham were one of the clubs that wanted to sign him in the summer, but the Eagles slapped a massive £100 million price tag on him to keep interested clubs at bay.

Wharton is unlikely to move in January

Manchester United and Real Madrid are two of the biggest clubs that want to sign Adam Wharton. The Red Devils see him as an ideal long-term replacement for Casemiro, who is expected to leave the club next summer. The reports suggest Wharton is interested in a switch to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos are keen on his signature, as their manager Xabi Alonso is pushing for another world-class midfielder, preferably someone who can sit deep and contribute both creatively and defensively. Wharton is seen as an ideal fit for the club.

Both Manchester United and Real Madrid could make a move for his signature when the transfer window reopens. However, they won’t find it easy to secure his services, as the Eagles will have the upper hand in negotiations with his contract running until 2029.

The English international is also unlikely to push for a move mid-season with the World Cup coming up. He remains fully committed to Crystal Palace and wants to do his best to make it to the England squad for the global event next summer. Wharton is not agitating to leave Selhurst Park, and any potential transfer will have to wait until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
